DB Acoustics & Environmental Services are a Glasgow based acoustic consultancy offering specialist advise in noise related issues. We offer noise assessments, surveys and design advice on a range of projects across the country providing tailored solutions, swift response times and competitive pricing.

We specialise in ensuring compliance with planning requirements and building regulations on a range of projects from new build construction, refurbishment and conversion projects. Working closely with contractors, developers, architects and designers; we are well-versed in the challenges involved with meeting building regulation requirements and project deadlines and will go out of our way to ensure your project goes smoothly.

Building Acoustics

An empty room with gray flooring and white walls, containing a speaker on a tripod stand and several pieces of electrical equipment mounted on the walls, with shiny metallic ventilation pipes running along the ceiling.

Building acoustics is concerned with how sound interacts within a building either within a room or from room to room via walls and floors. We have experience diagnosing issues with sound transmission between rooms and understand the common issues experienced with various types of construction, based on this we can then provide tailored advice on how to achieve good levels of privacy and noise separation between spaces (such as an office) or meet a specific rating or standard (such as a domestic building to meet building regulations).

We can also review construction details and provide feedback if required to help make sure your project passes first time.

Environmental Noise

Environmental noise assessments are often requested by local authorities for planning applications to establish the noise impacts from/on a development. An environmental noise assessment will typically involve an assessment of the existing background noise and comparison against the predicted noise generated by any new sound sources within the proposed development.

Noise surveys can also be requested by environmental health officers if they have concerns about the construction of new dwellings or conversions to residential (change of use) in a high noise area such as a town or city centre. These dwellings can be exposed to noise sources such as road/rail traffic or commercial/industrial noise (e.g. ventilation systems).

We can provide guidance on discharging planning conditions which normally requires demonstrating compliance with specific noise limits within standards such as BS4142 or BS8233. Mitigation measures may also be required in areas exposed to high noise levels which might include specification of acoustic elements such as glazing or window vents.
